Activities

CITY

CITY (originally Churches in Tiptree Youth) is an open access Youth Club for young people of secondary school age* meeting at Tiptree URC on Friday evenings.

Run by Andy, our youth worker, and supported by a team of volunteers drawn from local churches, there is a varied programme of activities, including physical games, board games, traditional youth club activities such as table tennis and fussball, arts, crafts, summer sports at Grove Road Playing Fields and special themed nights too.

We enjoy a time of Hot Snacks and Drinks together (small charges apply) and each week includes a short reflection on a topic where a Christian perspective is considered. It’s a wonder we have time to fit everything in.

We charge £1 per week towards costs of materials and resources to run the club – with the first session for a new member being free.

Contact Andy for more details and to arrange a visit.

*CITY is open to youngsters in year 6 from Easter each year as part of their school transition.

Playground Pastoral Work

Playground pastoral work at Thurstable School. Working with our partners from the Essex Youth Service (EYS), Andy visits our local secondary school each week for a lunchtime Wednesday Walkabout.

This builds trust and good working relationships with the students and has the full support of the senior leadership team and staff at the school.

We hope that it will be a catalyst for TYPO to offer a student mentoring programme in the near future.

Wednesday Youth Club

A community youth club on Wednesday afternoons in term time with our partners from EYS. This club continues to grow in numbers each week, usually using Tiptree Community Centre and occasionally the Tiptree Leisure Centre.

It allows young people to develop a safe youth space that meets their needs and acts as a place to continue conversations from lunchtime visits to Thurstable School.

Wednesday Youth Club has been supported by Tiptree Parish Council.

Drop-In Breakfasts

Occasional free drop-In breakfasts.

These run during holiday times from 9:30-11:30 (as not all young people want to be getting up early during school holidays!).

Youth Outreach

Youth outreach with older teenagers at the Grove Road Playing Fields and Skate Park in Tiptree.

This has been supported by colleagues and funding from the Essex Youth Service and usually involves sporting activities.

Faith Development

As a Christian-led charity, TYPO looks to encourage and develop a Christian faith in young people.

Andy is planning a new faith development, discipleship and nurture activity for young people with the support of local churches.

We are also excited to be taking a group camping for the weekend at the Solid Youth Festival near Upminster in July.
